The Perryville boys basketball team lost 73-36 to visiting West Nottingham Academy Tuesday afternoon, December 12.
Rising Sun senior Ethan Greene said he simply wanted to do his part.
He accomplished that and then some. Greene poured in 37 points – including 29 in the second half – to propel the Tigers to a 69-60 victory over visiting Harford Christian Monday night, December 11. The Rising Sun boys basketball team lost 70-46 to visiting West Nottingham Academy in the season-opener last Wednesday night.
The Rams scored the game's first seven points and never looked back. Thomas Wolfe never met Charles Givens Sr. The noted author's 1940 posthumously published book was titled "You Can't Go Home Again". Givens has proven to be an exception. He has gone back home for a second time. The longtime Perryville High boys basketball coach is entering his first season at the helm of his hometown school, Elkton. Givens coached a total of 40 years at Perryville, leaving for a six-year stint as an assistant principal at Elkton, before returning to Perryville to coach for four more campaigns. Now, he's back in Elkton. "There was an opening and I live in the community," Givens said. "It's a good opportunity to coach kids from an area that I know. Some people always see change as something they try to resist but I didn't resist change." Chasing down the playoffs. North East's Chase Hollister scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half as the Indians ousted the Tigers 53-49 in the sectional quarter finals last Friday, February 24. "Hollister hit several big three's and as I said before little things add up to big things," said North East head coach, Alan Foskey. "I thought our defense was a little better. I thought our wings dropped really well and got into the passing lanes and disrupted a lot of things and then we shot the ball a lot better then we have in the past. We held the ball when we needed to, I just think they played a lot smarter." Tri-State Christian Academy boys basketball triumphed over visiting Perryville 72-49 on Monday, February 13. The Panthers and the Crusaders tied at nine points each halfway through the first period after Perryville's Dom Gugliotta scored two three pointers, and Willie Hughes added a free throw. Crusader Ethan Wolfe scored three consecutive treys in the final minutes giving them a five point lead over the Panthers. Perryville boys basketball fell to visiting Fallston in a nip and tuck game of 47-40 on Wednesday, February 8. The Panthers led the first period racking up 10 points, with three pointers from Nick Roberts and Dennis "DJ" Johnson bringing them ahead by two. In the second, the Cougars regained control of the floor after a three point shot from Hoerr. Johnson added five points holding the Panthers within two points of Fallston at the half. After having a slow start to their season, Bo Manor boys basketball team captured a 62-58 victory over Rising Sun on January 17. "It feels good to have a win, they've practiced hard. We are in a good spot right now and we always do our best in February," said Bo Manor head coach Sandy Grimes. "The first win of the season feels really good. On a road game to come out and get the win, it felt good," said Bo Manor player Cameron Garcia. The Tigers took control in the first when Casey Baker added eight points which gave them a two point advantage. In the second, Rising Sun held its lead over Bo Manor by scoring a total of 22 points, bringing the score to 38-30 at the end of the first half. "I thought we were pretty much in control of the game and we just made some mistakes. Things happen and (we) made a few mistakes that just cost us in the end," said Rising Sun head coach Don Passenant. |
